We have a gorgeous wedding to share with you today, captured beautifully by the incomparable talents at Jim Liaw Photography. Let’s take a look at Charles and Yi Shin’s outdoor wedding!

Man and wife, surrounded by loved ones in the serene atmosphere of Malaysia’s untouched tropical rainforest, in Janda Baik, Pahang.

Our first wedding post of the year takes us to a small village called Janda Baik, located in Bentong, Pahang, about 45km outside of Kuala Lumpur. For many nature-loving Malaysians, Janda Baik has long become an escape from the city not only because of its close proximity and easy access, but also because of its cool weather. Geographically located 1500-4500 feet above sea level, temperatures here are a pleasing 23-28 degree Celsius during the day.

For our nature-loving couple, Charles and Yi Shin, you can guess why this was the perfect location for their big day. Being surrounded by nature and lush greenery is calming and relaxing, which is important for a day such as this, says Yi Shin. They wanted an outdoor venue but the weather needed to be nice and cool so that they were not sweating when saying “I do”. Yi Shin added, “Weather and temperature were crucial factors for me, as heat and humidity can change good moods to bad very easily, according to my friends who got married before us. When you are carrying a heavy gown, with heavy hair and make-up, running around in hot, humid weather is not ideal.”

Different flowers and corsages, tied up in natural rope twine, for everyone in the bridal party and families of the bride and groom.

Like pretty much every bride these days, Yi Shin pored over wedding magazines and Pinterest for months, focusing particularly on outdoor weddings. Isn’t the Internet such a great source of information and ideas? “We love flowers and trees, and I love soft colours,” she says, and came up with a colour palette of gold and blush hues.

Bunches of flowers in mason jars strung up with natural rope twine, for a natural, rustic touch.

Throughout the years, we are very honoured and touched that many of our brides and grooms have been recommended to us through other couples, and their friends and families who know us and have hired us for their events. Yi Shin and Charles came to know us through their friends as well as their wedding planner, Leticia Hsu of Elysium Weddings. “We had been sourcing all over Selangor for a wedding decorator,” says Yi Shin, “and Wishing Tree was one of the several that we had shortlisted. In the end we chose Wishing Tree because they understood what we were looking for, and everyone in the market had only praises for them.”

Delightful details in pretty, white bunches of flowers line the aisle, and lovely lace parasols.

Our bride was very hands on throughout the planning process, understandably, as it is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion for her. From her and her bridesmaids’ bouquets, right down to the little details, Yi Shin paid attention to everything. But as the weeks and days went by, she left the final decisions to us.

Now let’s take a look at the beautiful details of our couple’s wedding reception…

The great hall, built entirely with timber and glass, provides a beautiful, natural atmosphere.

Gorgeous tablescape using a simple colour palette of green and white, using only glass and crystal vases to bring out the natural beauty of the succulents, flowers and other plants.

“Love is like a good piece of wood. It just gets stronger and stronger as the years go by.”

The space is transformed into a magical place at nightfall with the golden glow of warmth from the naked lightbulbs against the natural wood.

Charles and Yi Shin, we thank you so much for entrusting us to decorate your most special day, and also for sharing these beautiful photos with our readers. Yi Shin also sent us some kind words for this occasion:

“We are very blessed to have chosen the right decorator for our wedding. Wishing Tree truly gave us the best for our budget. Not only were they very helpful and understanding, they also go out of their way to make it happen for you. This, for us, makes Wishing Tree the most reliable florist and decorator in Malaysia.”
