A glamorous setting in red, gold, feathers, candelabras and pearls.

Derick and Elaine (well, mostly Elaine) had red and gold in mind for their wedding decor, with “loads of glitter and bling”. One fine evening they went to the cinema to catch a show, and there it was, a big poster of Leonardo DiCaprio in the starring role of the movie that would inspire their fun and glamorous wedding. That was how ‘The Great Gatsby’, set in the roaring 20s, the epitome of excess, glitz, and glam, provided the inspiration they needed for their wedding design team.

A big thank you goes out to the amazing Jim Liaw and Sara Lam who photographed this wedding and came back to us with these beautiful photos. Many thanks also to Derick and Elaine for sharing with us the honour to be a part of their wedding and in turn become a part of the Wishing Tree Blog!

Red roses, mokara orchids and dianthus amidst strands of pearls, glitter and candlelight for a dramatically romantic ambience.

In the past, we have decorated weddings inspired by movies such as ‘Avatar’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, and even music videos such as ‘Lady Marmalade’. Some might feel like movie themes are a bit quirky or campy for an event as important as a wedding, but unless you are recreating the movie set, your wedding can be very stylish and elegant.. with a touch of drama.

Our couple had been looking for a venue for their wedding and visited numerous hotels in Kuala Lumpur, many of whom mentioned us when asked about wedding decorators (thank you so much!). Derick and Elaine then came to our office, had a lovely chat with us while looking through our portfolio, and chose us for their big day. They also picked our dear friend, Mun Tzin, who planned the wedding.

The bridal table’s centerpiece stands tall and grand, crowned with glorious feathers.

Our lovely bride worked closely with Mun Tzin and Lily in putting together the details, using a mood board to keep everyone on the same page and in the same direction. Flowers were hues of red and champagne, with a bit of pink of offset the richness of the reds. Pearls, glitter, bling and feathers were the mainstay for the evening’s glamorous ambience.

Take your centerpiece up a few notches by adding feathers, strands of pearls and candlelight. A little effort goes a long way!

Roses were mainly used for Derick and Elaine’s evening reception, and as you can see, many roses were needed for all the centerpieces and decor. We had a little hiccup with the roses because it was snowing heavily in some areas from where our roses came, so we had to quickly find a new source… and it turned out to be Kenya!

Two long tables on either side of the red carpet, decorated in the same theme of tall arrangements, red feathers, strands of pearls and crystals, and candlelight.

Derick and Elaine’s wedding dinner was truly a sight to behold that evening. They took a theme from a movie, and made it theirs by using their favourite colours; we could easily call it “The Great Gatsby” with an Oriental twist… Well done, Derick and Elaine! 🙂

“Thank you so much for the amazing support and being the best floral decorator. We loved your beautiful floral arrangements, pearls and crystals, and pretty much every detail of the decor. We appreciate your professionalism and most importantly, the very personal heartfelt experience of working with your team. You helped us create our very own glamorous wedding that we will remember forever. We will always recommend your team whenever possible. Thanks again!” – Derick & Elaine
